Today is the day — the world’s best kiteboarders gather on the raw coastline of the Netherlands as Red Bull Megaloop 2025 kicks off in Noordwijk. Known for its brutal North Sea storms and as the home of 2015 champion Lasse Walker, this spot sets the stage for riders to defy gravity and unleash true megaloop power. For the first time, the Women’s Division joins the storm, with six elite riders pushing the limits of the sport alongside 16 men. Judged on Extremity, Execution and Flow, the men face a new strict 18m line limit, forcing them to go bigger, more complex and more extreme. Stay tuned for live updates here, or catch the action on Red Bull TV with the full livestream, highlights and exclusive kiteboarding content.

Line length

Red Bull Megaloop continues to push the boundaries of extreme kiteboarding, so a bold new rule has been introduced for 2025. In the Men’s Division, riders are now restricted to a maximum line length of 18m. This line restriction is not just a technical shift; it’s a game-changing move designed to elevate the competition to new extremes. With less line length, kite movement becomes faster and more reactive, forcing riders to go bigger and commit harder to their megaloops. The riders will have to execute moves in their rawest, most extreme form.

Event format

The heat format has also evolved. Whilst four riders competed simultaneously in previous editions, riders will now face each other in 1-vs-1 heats of 8 minutes.
The 22 riders converge on the beaches of Noordwijk, the Netherlands, for the Red Bull Megaloop following this competition format.

Men’s Division

Round 1: Sixteen riders compete head-to-head across eight heats. The eight winners advance directly to Round 3, while the eight riders who finish second move to Round 2 for another chance.
Round 2: The eight runners-up from Round 1 compete in 4 heats. The top 4 riders from these heats earn their spot in Round 3.
Round 3: The eight winners from Round 1 join the four riders advancing from Round 2. These twelve face off in 6 heats, with the winners moving on to the Semi-Finals.
Semi-Final: The six winners from Round 3 compete in 3 heats. The best rider from each heat advances to the Final.
Final: The top 3 riders from the Semi-Final enter a three-way battle for the Red Bull Megaloop championship title.

Women’s Division

Round 1: The six riders are split into two heats. The winner of each heat advances directly to the Final. The remaining four riders move on to the Semi-Final for another chance to qualify.
Semi-Final: The second-place finishers from each Round 1 heat compete, and the winner earns the final spot in the championship fight. The three finalists compete in a three-way battle for the Red Bull Megaloop championship title.

In those rounds, judges look for the biggest megaloops in kiteboarding, focusing on quality over quantity. Only a rider’s highest-scoring jump counts. The criteria for judging tricks are:
Extremity: accounting for 70 per cent, it’s the combination of height, power, distance travelled and kite angle.

Execution and Flow: counting for 30 per cent, it is the combination of the trick itself (15), rider style (10), and landing (5).
