CrazyFly have been progressing up through the ranks for many years now. Starting off as a small company producing only a select few boards, they are now a fully-fledged company producing a wide range of kites, boards and other accessories. With their progression we have seen them go from strength to strength. We were lucky enough to get our hands on the new Raptor 2016. Over the years it has proved to be very popular with freeriders around the globe. This is the 10th anniversary of the Raptor, and we were keen to check out its latest improvements.

For its 10th birthday, the Raptor has received a new multi-channel base with V tips, a Step Cap deck, Hexa bindings and a new construction. The new construction is a mix of multi-axial fibreglass and X Carbon.

All of these new features are there to give the rider a lot of speed while maintaining the grip the Raptor is known for, as well as great upwind performance. The new construction of the Raptor makes it slightly softer underfoot than previous models. The X Carbon in the construction should offer mind-blowing pop too.

On The Water

First of all, we would like to say this board is not only visually stunning when you take it out of its brand new wrapper, but it puts your mind at ease when you see how well made it looks. The sessions we had on the 2016 Raptor were awesome. The Raptor shoots upwind like a rocket, gripping till the last second before you boost from the water. Landings are very soft and smooth. While carving around this board will do everything you expect it to; it grips incredibly well, but also flows from rail to rail with ease and fluidity. The new Hexa binding system was slightly stiff at first, as with any high-quality footpads. After some time the pads and straps softened up and fitted superbly, locking your feet in place.

“Rides like a Velociraptor: quick, precise and is hunting for the next boost.”

Overall

The 2016 Raptor should be well considered for your freeride weapon of choice. Well made and has a stylish but simple graphic scheme. Rides like a Velociraptor: quick precise and is hunting for the next boost.
