At A Glance

Crazyfly is a brand name that has not only been around for a while, but is also becoming widely known across the market for its excellent boards, and in recent years its range of kites.

One board that has been in Crazyfly’s range for a number of years is the Cruiser / Cruiser Pro. With its aim of being a light wind machine that provides the rider all the necessary technical elements needed to have a good time on the water. We have seen this board grow from strength to strength in terms of its design and also its quality. This board can be found being used in a variety of situations, a school board, a large riders perfect choice and of course being a brilliant light wind freeride board.

Looking into a few key elements of its design we can see it boasts a flat bottom, large fins, and a wide profile in all sizes. These features will give the rider the ability to get going in light winds with a smooth yet fast planning speed. Although this board will not have as much grip as the other concaved freestyle and wake style boards in Crazyfly’s range, it’s large fins will ensure you have the traction needed to carve through and pop off the water.

The construction of the Crazyfly Cruiser Pro as well as others in the range varies in style but not in quality. Having their own factory ensures all products in the range go out at the highest standard. The Cruiser Pro is obviously a light wind board, these are not usually built to the highest spec. However, something we see with the 2015 Cruiser Pro is technology such as Synergy sidewalls, multiaxial glass fibre and a full carbon construction. The benefits of a Full Carbon board are that not only that is it ultra light and super strong, the carbon’s ability to return to its original shape aids the rider in giving a greater amount of pop off the water.

When your new 2015 Cruiser Pro board arrives you are bound to agree that it is most definitely a looker. The colours this year across the deck compliment each other so well. We can see parts of the wood core, the carbon layers and the Synergy sidewalls mixed in with this years lovely green / yellow shades. Not only will you notice the graphics, but we’re sure you will pick up on the overall feel of quality this board gives. The footpads and straps are colour-matched to suit the rest of the Cruiser Pro.

On The Water

Getting out on the 2015 Crazily Cruiser Pro was such a great experience, not to forget we were out riding it in a mere 10knots with the CrazFly Cruze 17m. Who doesn’t love being able to get out and riding easily in light winds? One thing the Cruiser does so well is release and bite the water as a when you need it too. The pop delivered makes it a perfect companion for getting out in light winds to bust some freeriding.

As we rotated riders during the test we noticed not only how comfy, but also how adjustable the footpads and straps were, perfectly suiting riders with combinations of small feet, large feet, no boots and with wetsuit boots. The Cruiser Pro jumped very well although you must remember it will always be harder to get used to sinking the edge in on such a wide board. Upwind ability is something the Cruiser doesn't lack at all, in no time at all we were out back cruising the swell.

If you’ve ridden these wide style boards before then you’ll quickly get used to the techniques needed to get the most out of the Cruiser Pro. Being a little larger underfoot a more dominant technique is needed, once the edge is set though the board flies across the water with ease. The lightweight and flat rocker really combine to help get the board going early, but also the board has a fast top end speed, which allows you to get quite technical with the tricks. Once in the air the board doesn’t feel too cumbersome as it is so light on your feet. The carbon construction is definitely a real bonus with this board!

“It meets every requirement a rider could ask for in a light wind board”

Overall

To summarise the Cruiser Pro we would say that the overall quality and look for the board is top notch. In terms of its riding feel and what it’s best for, we would highly recommend this as a light wind board to add to your quiver or for the larger riders out there it makes a great freeride board. It meets every requirement a rider could ask for in a light wind board, great upwind ability, predictable pop with easy jumps and landings.

It definitely puts a smile on your face on those days you would usually be sat on the beach waiting, wishing and hoping for the wind to pick up. It would also be well suited for beginners looking for an easy board to progress on and it would even lend itself well to twin-tip racing with its solid upwind ability.
