The 02 Moto from Cabrinha is the newest iteration of the much-loved Moto. Cabrinha has been one of kitesurfing's longest and most well-respected brands since 1999, originally headed by kiting pioneer Pete Cabrinha. Based in Maui, which is considered by many the Mecca of kiting, Cabrinha has been developing kites right at the epicentre of innovation.

Cabrinha is also trying to reduce their carbon footprint, recently using a bio-based Dyneema for all of their control bars. They have also implemented recycling old kite bags and making new ones out of them. Back in 2018, the Moto won the IKSURFMAG's best light wind kite and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

The Moto has a smooth, Pure Arc Segments leading edge. This means that the kite does not have the leading edge divided and stitched together in sections. Instead, the Moto has quite the contrast, being fabricated from a smooth one-piece arc. This makes the aerodynamics of the kite extremely efficient, as air can flow seamlessly over the leading edge without being impeded by different sections of the leading edge. The Pure Arc Segments leading edge combined with the Pure Profile Segments create a kite that experiences exceptionally clean airflow.

Cabrinha are once again using Nano Ripstop Canopy. The canopy is extremely durable and means that you can go for new moves and not worry about wrecking the kite. Additionally, the Ripstop material creates a highly responsive kite.

The Moto comes in 8 sizes, making a complete quiver for any wind speed. The kite also comes in 4 colours. It is best paired with either the Overdrive Modular 1X or the Overdrive Quickloop 1X control bar.

Sizes: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14m

On The Water

The first thing I noticed when going on the water was the smooth power delivery that the kite offers. This 3 Strut, moderate aspect ratio hybrid kite really excels in the gusts due to the Pure Arc Segments and the Pure Profile Segments.

The Moto has a light bar pressure but not too light to give no feedback to the rider. When you turn the kite, it does really snap around and offers plenty of response. Having no pulleys on the bridles makes the kite give incredible feedback! The kite may turn quickly, but it does not feel out of control and creates a smooth turn shape. When looping the kite, I found it doesn't create much power making it the perfect kite for those starting their first kite loops or down loop transitions on a foil, without the fear of being yanked out of their foot straps!

The Moto is the most versatile kite in Cabrinha's range. This means that you can send some big jumps on a twin tip, and the smooth arc can help you land those butter landings. The Moto is good at looping and offers some great hangtime. However, if you want to take your big air riding to the next level, I suggest looking at the 02 Switchblade from Cabrinha.

By no means is this kite as good as the Contra 1 Strut in light winds, but it does offer some seriously good light wind performance. Because of the Moto's epic light wind performance, it almost feels like the kite will never stall during those lulls in the wind, making the kite an amazing choice for foiling. The kite also offers amazing re-launch ability and lift-off in barely any wind. The extremely quick turning of the kite makes it also great for wave riding.

Overall

The 02 Moto from Cabrinha is a great choice for any rider out there. With great stability in the air and a smooth power stroke delivery, the ease of use of the Moto makes it the ideal kite for anyone, from beginner to first jumps and initial runs on foil. The fact that it allows riders from all disciplines to use one kite is a huge selling point for this kite!
