Eight weeks after undergoing ACL surgery, Pippa van Iersel shares her latest updates.

I wish I could tell that everything is running smoothly but I can’t. During the first few weeks, I was moving very fast. After a while, my knee stopped moving as fast, and now it gets swollen quickly. I have to go back to crutches, minimal exercise, and rest. For the past 2 weeks, I have been following this schedule.

The protocol suggests you test the ACL three to five months after surgery, but I tested it six weeks after surgery, which wasn’t ideal. I can’t turn it back, it’s happened. Today I’ll have an MRI to make sure everything is okay. There may be cartilage in the way or something with the screw, which requires surgery (the chances are very slim). It’s probably just inflammation that needs proper exercise and a good balance of training and rest. An MRI will rule out all other options and keep my mind at ease. I can’t sleep well, and I’m scared when my knee reacts so quickly.

Other than this, my mind and motivation are very strong. I will do what needs to be done, and I will be back 100% without a doubt.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Pippa!
