One of the most iconic kite spots in the world!

In this episode I’m going to show you one of the most iconic kitesurfing spots in the world — a place where, in the past, the biggest names in the sport used to live and train. One of the locations where kitesurfing was created and developed, and where, to this day, a huge part of the world’s brands are based.

In this vlog I traveled to Hood River, Oregon – USA 🇺🇸, in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, to shoot the new Rebel D/LAB 2026. This place isn’t just beautiful — it’s a symbol of wind sports: windsurf, kite and wing all sharing the same spot, with that “wind capital” energy that only people who’ve been here truly understand. I was also lucky to catch AWSI, the biggest kitesurf expo in the world, which takes place there.

The “Gorge” works like a funnel: cooler air coming from the Pacific meets the heat from inland areas and creates strong, consistent thermal winds.

HIGH SEASON:
May – September 15 – 30 knots

TEMPERATURE:
Hot days and cooler nights. July is the warmest month, with averages around 29°C / 85°F for the high and 16°C / 60°F for the low.
In August, the water temperature can reach around 22°C / 72°F.

How to get there:

✈️ Most convenient airport: Portland (PDX)
🚗 From PDX to Hood River it’s about 58–60 miles (~93–97 km) and takes around 1 hour by car (there are also shuttle/bus options).

What to do besides kiting:

Hikes and viewpoints in the Columbia River Gorge: insane landscapes, canyon views and waterfalls.
Fruit Loop (Hood River Valley): a scenic route with farms, fruit stands, wineries, cideries, and amazing stops for photos.
Day trip to Mt. Hood: that classic mountain on the horizon (perfect for hiking/road trip).
