The Select Concept Blue is the lower-impact counterpart to Duotone's performance freeride Select SLS. It is intended for riders who value early planing, comfort, upwind efficiency and responsive carving but prefer a construction based around Flax and Basalt rather than the SLS carbon and Innegra laminate. The board retains the Select family's freeride outline, flexible tips and detailed bottom shaping, giving it a broad ability range from progression through experienced cruising and hooked manoeuvres.
Concept Blue Construction
Flax fibre replaces conventional glass in key areas, contributing dampening and a smoother response through chop. Basalt fibre, produced from volcanic rock, adds torsional and longitudinal stiffness so the board remains lively and connected under load. Duotone says the material combination lowers the product's carbon footprint and that Concept Blue boards are produced using solar energy. The construction is designed to balance environmental considerations with the structural control expected from a performance freeride board.
Flex, Outline and Early Planing
A soft flex specification makes the board forgiving and reduces impact during longer sessions. The Performance Outline is slightly longer than a conventional equivalent, providing more useful area for low-end planing and a smoother passage through rough water. Absorption Flex Tips adapt to changing load: they remain comparatively flat to release early in light wind, then flex with speed to increase control and cushion landings. The Select Concept Blue is available in 135 x 39 cm, 138 x 40 cm, 141 x 41 cm and 144 x 42 cm. Duotone lists rider ranges of 55–75 kg, 70–85 kg, 75–90 kg and above 85 kg. S-Bend FS 4.5 Glass 15 fins are used on the two smaller sizes, with S-Bend FS 5.0 Glass 15 fins on the larger two. Published weights are approximately 2.335 kg, 2.390 kg, 2.565 kg and 2.820 kg, subject to a five per cent tolerance.
Riding Character
The board's emphasis is smooth freeride performance rather than aggressive competition response. It is designed to get moving early, ride comfortably through chop and maintain an efficient upwind line, while the Basalt reinforcement and rail geometry retain enough energy for carving, transitions and hooked tricks. The soft flex and broad size range make it accessible, but experienced freeriders can still use its responsive outline and grip.
