The Spike SLS is Duotone's lightweight light-wind twin tip, designed to start early, hold speed and travel efficiently upwind when conventional boards struggle to plane. Unlike a purely passive door-style board, it also retains enough response and pop for hooked freestyle and jumps. Its large surface area, flat rocker and long outline are combined with SLS carbon and Innegra materials to reduce the slow, cumbersome feel that can affect larger light-wind boards.
Light-Wind Shape
A broad platform places substantial surface area beneath the rider, helping the board rise onto the plane and making water starts more straightforward when kite power is limited. The flat rocker reduces drag and keeps more of the base engaged with the water, supporting acceleration and sustained speed. Duotone's revised outline is intended to carve more smoothly than a traditional rectangular light-wind shape while continuing to deliver the straight-line efficiency required for marginal conditions.
Upwind Control and Rails
Angled rails create additional heel-side bite and help the board maintain an efficient upwind line. This is particularly important in light wind, where losing ground can end a session quickly. The rail geometry also gives the board a more defined release for small jumps and tricks. SLS Construction and Flex
Textreme Innegra contributes low weight, vibration dampening and comfort across a large platform. Biax Carbon supplies response and keeps steering input and loading from disappearing into excessive flex. Duotone uses a medium flex specification to balance stability with enough movement for carving and landing absorption. The construction aims to make the board feel more precise and playful than its dimensions suggest, allowing it to support freestyle progression as well as simple low-wind cruising.
Sizes and Specifications
The Spike SLS comes in 153 x 46.5 cm and 164 x 47.5 cm. Duotone lists both for riders above 40 kg, leaving the choice to wind strength, rider preference and the amount of planing area required. Both sizes use Glass 50 fins. Published board weights are approximately 3.44 kg for the 153 and 3.67 kg for the 164, subject to a stated tolerance of plus or minus five per cent.
Riding Character
The board's defining strengths are early planing, acceleration and upwind progress in limited power. The SLS laminate and revised outline add a more lively response, giving riders scope for transitions, jumps and simple freestyle rather than restricting the board to straight-line cruising. It remains a large specialist platform, so riders prioritising strong-wind agility would choose a smaller model, but it is intended to preserve more session quality when the breeze is marginal.
