The DUOTONE Evo D/LAB 2027 is a premium three-strut inflatable kite designed as a high-performance all-rounder for freeride, big air, freestyle and wave sessions. It is aimed at experienced and ambitious riders who want one responsive platform across several disciplines rather than a narrowly specialised kite. DUOTONE positions this D/LAB version at the top of the Evo range, combining a light, rigid airframe with direct handling, powerful jumping performance and a wide usable wind range.
High-performance all-round character
The Evo D/LAB is tuned to generate strong vertical lift and extended hangtime while keeping take-off timing intuitive. Its aerodynamic profile and stiff frame are intended to accelerate efficiently, convert speed into height and provide a smooth, controlled descent. The handling remains deliberately quick and precise, supporting aggressive loops and technical freestyle manoeuvres as well as conventional freeride jumping.
Although big-air performance is a central part of the design, the kite is not presented as a single-discipline machine. Its direct steering and ability to remain controllable when depowered also support carving and wave riding. This broad focus makes it relevant to riders who regularly switch between powered twin-tip sessions, freeride cruising, loops, freestyle and directional-board use.
Aluula D/TX frame and canopy construction
The three-strut frame uses Aluula D/TX, DUOTONE’s lightest and most advanced frame material setup. The material combines low weight with high stiffness, allowing the kite to react quickly to bar input while holding its intended shape under load. DUOTONE says this rigidity also gives designers more control over flex, torsion and stiffness when tuning the airframe.
MOD 3S canopy technology is specified for increased strength and stability, with DUOTONE claiming three times the tear resistance and substantially less stretch than the previous generation. Trinity TX, the brand’s 3x2 canopy fabric, is also used for its balance of durability and dynamic performance. A Single Stitch Trailing Edge reduces material and weight at the rear of the canopy while limiting flutter and helping maintain a clean aerodynamic profile.
Structure, bridle and response
A new six-point bridle supports the leading edge, helping the frame remain compact and stable while transferring power smoothly. The system is intended to extend the usable wind range and keep the kite predictable through strong gusts. Fusion Strut 2.0 joins each strut to the leading edge through a single connection, contributing to structural stability and a precise flying feel.
Further weight-saving details include Micro Batten Construction, stated to be 40 percent lighter than DUOTONE’s regular batten arrangement, and Micro Loop Connections that are 40 percent smaller than those on regular models. Leading Edge Intersegment Seam Construction increases airframe strength and stiffness, while the High-Pressure Closing and Intersegment Seam system is designed to preserve the kite’s shape under high internal pressure. Anti Snag webbing helps prevent lines catching around the tips, and Kook Proof Connectors reduce the chance of attaching flying lines incorrectly.
Wind range and efficiency
The rigid airframe and refined canopy tension are designed to keep the Evo D/LAB calm and predictable at the top of its wind range. At the other end of the scale, the efficient frame is intended to produce early acceleration and useful low-end power without making the kite feel slow. Forward flight and a clean canopy profile support upwind tracking while maintaining speed and line tension.
Eight sizes cover 6 to 13 square metres. Published wind ranges run from 19–42 knots for the 6m to 8–26 knots for the 13m. The 6m through 9m sizes use a recommended 22m line length and small bar, while the 10m through 13m sizes use 24m lines and a medium bar. Quoted weights without the bag progress from 1.890kg for the 6m to 2.810kg for the 13m.
Summary
The DUOTONE Evo D/LAB 2027 combines a lightweight Aluula D/TX three-strut frame, MOD 3S and Trinity TX canopy materials, a six-point bridle and detailed weight-saving construction. Its blend of explosive lift, fast and direct steering, top-end stability, low-end efficiency and upwind performance makes it a versatile premium option for riders who want one high-performance kite for freeride, big air, freestyle, loops and waves.
