The DUOTONE Neo 2027 is a wave and strapless-freestyle kite built around predictable handling, drift and smoothly delivered power. It is the more accessible Original-construction alternative to the sharper Neo SLS, with a stable character intended to let the rider concentrate on the wave rather than constantly manage the kite. DUOTONE presents the design for modern surf conditions, technical directional changes and strapless aerial manoeuvres, with a ten-size range extending from 3m to 12m.
Control on the wave
The Neo's balanced planform and refined bridle are intended to keep the canopy calm through gusts and rapid changes of direction. Steering is direct enough to reposition the kite quickly but is designed to avoid a nervous or excessively aggressive response. This helps maintain a consistent connection at the bar through bottom turns, transitions and critical sections where sudden power changes could disturb the rider's balance.
Its drift behaviour is designed for moments when the rider accelerates towards the kite or travels down the line with reduced line tension. Rather than falling backwards or generating an abrupt pull, the Neo is intended to remain stable and follow the rider. Power builds progressively across the wind range, supporting controlled carving and strapless movements without pronounced spikes. An optimised canopy profile and bridle setup also support relaunch, including the difficult conditions created by breaking surf.
Canopy, frame and rigging details
The Original construction uses Trinity TX canopy material with a 3x2 yarn layout. DUOTONE developed this fabric to balance dynamic response with durability. MOD 3S is also specified for reduced stretch, improved stability and three times the tear resistance of the preceding material generation. A single-stitch trailing edge removes excess material and is intended to reduce flutter while preserving an efficient profile.
Leading-edge intersegment seams reinforce the airframe while contributing to stiffness and direct flight stability. Micro battens are around 40 percent lighter than regular versions, and the micro-loop line connections are also 40 percent smaller as part of the weight-control programme. Double-V pigtails distribute line loads across a wider area, helping limit fatigue and distortion while supporting smoother steering. Anti-snag webbing is fitted at the tips to reduce line tangles during relaunch, and kook-proof connectors help prevent incorrect line attachment during setup.
Sizes and specifications
The smaller sizes use a recommended 22m line, with 24m shown as an alternative. The 3m covers 29-42 knots and weighs 1.60kg; the 4m covers 26-40 knots at 1.85kg; the 5m covers 23-38 knots at 2.05kg; the 6m covers 21-36 knots at 2.25kg; the 7m covers 19-34 knots at 2.40kg; and the 8m covers 17-32 knots at 2.65kg.
The 9m is listed for 15-30 knots with a 22-24m line recommendation and weighs 2.80kg. The 10m covers 13-28 knots at 3.00kg, the 11m covers 12-25 knots at 3.15kg, and the 12m covers 11-22 knots at 3.35kg; these sizes also use 22-24m lines. Weights exclude the bag, and the official wind figures are guidance affected by rider weight, board, skill and sea state. The available colourways are C02 undyed with lime green and C03 pink.
