At A Glance
The Ozone Edge has long been one of the defining kites in Ozone’s range, a benchmark for speed, hangtime, and upwind drive. Now in its 13th iteration (the “VT” stands for Version Thirteen), the Edge continues to evolve while keeping its core DNA intact.
The new lineup spans 6 to 13m in one-metre steps, plus 15m and 18m options for light-wind sessions. The 12m is new for this release, along with the 15 and 18m sizes; this narrows the gap from the 13m to the 17m and 19m last year. The new 12m is a welcome addition, hitting the sweet spot freeride size many riders love.
Ozone has re-engineered the construction by size: smaller kites (6–9m) use full Teijin triple-ripstop Dacron for strength and durability, mid-sizes (10–13m) feature a hybrid 125g Dacron/ Teijin triple-ripstop Dacron mix, and the big sizes (15–18m) use 125g Dacron to reduce weight and improve the flying characteristics.
Updates for the new kite include increased canopy tension, especially at the trailing edge, to reduce flutter and improve performance. The planform and arc of the kite has been refined for quicker handling and more responsive turning, and a new 16-point bridle, inspired by the Vortex, gives the leading edge incredible stability.
This new bridle allows Ozone to reduce leading-edge diameter without losing stiffness. The result: a faster, more aerodynamic kite that drives forward effortlessly while retaining that bulletproof Edge feel.
It's a five strut design to give the most rigid platform possible for big air and as usual the Ozone build quality is second to none.
Sizes: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18m
Recommended Bar Set up: 55cm with 23m Lines
In the Air
From the first dive, the Edge VT feels familiar yet sharper. The bar pressure is slightly lighter than before, but not so much that you lose connection; you always know where the kite is, and there is plenty of feedback for the rider. Steering response is immediate; pull the bar, and it reacts instantly; there is no lag, no delay, just direct, precise feedback. This is largely thanks to the tighter tension in the trailing edge. When you engage the bar, that tighter tension allows the kite to respond instantaneously.
That new, tighter trailing edge also eliminates flutter. The canopy stays silent and composed even when fully sheeted out in gusty conditions. This allows the kite to fly further forward in the window with less drag, giving you more speed and better upwind angles.
This dynamic, speedy nature gives the kite impressive boosting capabilities. The Edge VT still reigns supreme in the freeride big-air arena. It accelerates hard across the window, rockets you skyward, and holds you there with ridiculous hangtime. It’s the kind of float that lets you take a look around mid-flight, plan your landing, and still come down smoothly. More than this, though, this performance is effortless to access; it’s plug-and-play, reassuring, and confidence-inspiring.
Upwind, the performance is classic Edge: incredible drive and efficiency. The thinner leading edge lets it fly further forward in the window, making those long runs back to the beach or up the coast effortless. That efficiency also makes it surprisingly good fun for foiling, especially in lighter winds where the power delivery is predictable and smooth.
And while it’s built for freeride and big air, the Edge VT’s forgiving nature makes it approachable. It’s fast, but not intimidating; robust, yet stable. You can push your limits without the kite punishing your mistakes.
Overall
The Edge VT continues Ozone’s tradition of refining, not reinventing, what already works. It’s the ultimate freeride kite for riders who crave speed, lift, and control coupled with ease of use and a forgiving nature.
The 16-point bridle, tighter canopy, and refined shaping give it a distinctly modern feel—clean, composed, and confidence-inspiring. Whether you’re chasing height on a twin tip, blasting upwind on a foil, or just enjoying a cruisy freeride session, the Edge VT delivers incredible performance across the board. It’s forgiving, easy to ride and will excite you every time you launch it.
If you’re a fan of the Edge, you’ll fall for this one all over again. If you’ve never ridden one and like to go big with minimal fuss, the performance on offer here will have you opening your wallet.
