The Ozone Vortex V2 Ultra-X 2026 is a three-strut Aluula kite developed for big-air riding and kite-loop progression. It combines a high-aspect outline, fast forward drive and a very stiff lightweight frame to generate lift, hangtime and dependable recovery after loops. Ozone positions it for intermediate riders moving into their first loops through to advanced and professional riders developing complex high-wind combinations.
Big-air performance
The Vortex V2 is designed to accelerate efficiently and convert board speed into vertical lift. Its forward drive helps the kite continue climbing rather than stalling after a manoeuvre, supporting the reliable catch that is important when loops are performed at height. Predictable turning is intended to give riders a clear sense of the kite’s path, while the rigid airframe keeps handling consistent as wind strength and load increase.
Although the model is focused on powered big air, Ozone has also worked on performance at the lower end of each size. This allows riders to practise jumps and rotations in less severe conditions before committing in stronger wind. The expanded range includes a 17m option for riders seeking twin-tip performance in conditions that might otherwise favour a foil kite.
V2 refinements
For the second generation, canopy tension has been reworked size by size and the leading edge made stiffer to sharpen feedback. The aim is a more direct connection at the bar without creating twitchy steering. Anti-flap battens have moved to the underside of the canopy and gained additional reinforcement, reducing wear in an area exposed to repeated movement.
Canopy material varies across the range. Sizes from 5m to 9m retain a 55g Teijin TechnoForce 3×3 Triple Ripstop canopy for strength in high-wind use. Sizes from 10m to 17m use a lighter 46g double-ripstop cloth, reducing weight by up to 150g to improve the agility and low-wind behaviour of the larger kites. The new 17m extends the design into dedicated light-wind big-air use.
Ultra-X construction
The three-strut airframe uses Aluula, providing a high stiffness-to-weight structure intended to resist deformation under load. Double transverse sail shaping creates a cleaner surface near the leading edge to support airflow and lift-to-drag efficiency. A 16-point, four-line pulley-less bridle uses low-drag Technora lines, maintaining direct steering while supporting the narrow, efficient frame.
Fast Flow single-point inflation links the leading edge and struts. Internal reinforcement, overlap flat seams, load-distribution panels, reinforced leading-edge and strut zones, trailing-edge protection, low-profile scuff pads and anti-snag line deflectors address durability and everyday handling. The technical bag provides compression and carrying options for travel and storage.
Sizes and setup
The range comprises 5m through 13m in one-metre steps, followed by 15m and 17m sizes. Published weights extend from 1.6kg for the 5m to 3.4kg for the 17m. All sizes use 23m lines. Ozone specifies a 45cm bar for 5–7m, a 50cm bar for 8–13m and a 55cm bar for 15m and 17m. The fixed projected aspect ratio of 3 and flat aspect ratio of 5.35 underline the model’s consistent high-aspect performance brief across the range.
