Wind and Weather
Masirah Island is a kitesurfer’s dream, thanks to the warm summer monsoon winds. The East side brings waves, while the West serves up calmer waters, which are great for cruising or practising new skills. Over at Bar Al Hickman, you’ll find glassy, flat water conditions perfect for freestyle or freeriding.
The prime time to visit is from mid-June to the end of August, with winds ranging from 20 to 35 knots depending on the day and spot. The wind blows from the south, so at Barr Al Hickman, it’s onshore on the ocean side and offshore in the lagoons—safe and sheltered by the mainland. On Masirah, the West side gets side-onshore breezes, and the East side offers side-offshore conditions, giving you plenty of variety to play with.
Getting Around
Your adventure kicks off with a scenic 5-hour drive from Muscat to the stunning Barr Al Hickman. From there, a short ferry ride takes you to Masirah Island, where you’ll be transported to some of the best kitesurfing spots on the East and West sides. Once you arrive, we’ve got all the logistics covered—just focus on enjoying the ride!
Food and Drink
You’ll savour freshly prepared Omani delights like Bishkek, fresh seafood, and beach barbecues at Bar Al Hickman. Breakfasts include cereals, preserves, toast, eggs, chicken sausages, hummus, and plenty of tea and coffee to fuel your day.
On Masirah Island, breakfast and lunch are served at the guesthouse, while dinner is your chance to explore local gems like Babu’s Kitchen or Abu Said Yamani, offering both authentic Omani dishes and international flavours.
Throughout the tour, enjoy Arabic coffee, dates, biscuits, and refreshing juices. Have dietary needs? Just let us know, and we’ll make it work!

Where are the Best Kitesurfing Beaches in Oman?
West coast: Garan, Ghab, Shar al-Shaikh, and Marsis are all side shores. Each spot is a bay with a water depth of 1.7 m at high tide. There is no shorebreak, as the water is flat.
East Coast: this is the wave Side of Masira, and you have a couple of good wave spots for beginners. I recommend Amq and, for the experienced riders, Khaseet. But the second spot is really technical, and you have to navigate round rocks on the way out and Waves can get up to 5M on a special day. Usually, they are 2 to 3m waves and a right break. It can get busy as a lot of windsurfers are on the water, Side offshore, and there are no rescue boats, and fishermen avoid going out. The east side is all shorebreak.
secret spot is most likely the highest level required to ride as it is offshore wind, but the waves are super glassy and do provide barrels with the right conditions
It's highly recommended that you take a guide to get to the spots, as you have to cross salt flats. Getting stuck is very easy and can lead to a high bill of as much as 800 euros. But it has two lagoons separated from the ocean by a sandbank.
