At a Glance

Glance is the wrong word when it comes to the Acid, this is the sort of board you have to stop and stare at! It has been in the F-One stable for a few years now and has been reinventing itself every year. It is still aimed at the out and out freestyle rider. But if you were to compare the 2010 model to the 2008 you would see some striking changes. And we aren’t just talking about the colours! This year sees the addition of a double concave rather than the single concave of last year. It still utilises the wood core that F-One are now famous for. They have perfected the process like no other brand and the Acid is a very thin board, just 11mm thick at its middle and 3mm thick at the tips! The finish is second to none, the colours and graphics really jump off the board. The pads are excellent and the straps are comfy and easy to fit and adjust.

On the Water

The Acid is one of the lightest and responsive boards you will ever get to ride this year. It is so crisp and direct underfoot, a real joy to throw through the air during powered freestyle moves. The flex is pretty stiff and when you load up the edge it really propels you up into the air. The double concave sorts out any harshness in the landings and also helps to avoid tripping an edge when you land off centre. The connection to the board through the pads is excellent and the feedback from the flex is very responsive. It really like powered up flat water freestyle riding though and in the chop it isn’t as comfy to ride as the Trax. But then this board is all about performance rather than comfort. Our one grumble really is there isn’t a larger version for the bigger riders out there. The 130 we had felt just a little under gunned unless it was really windy and the bigger size is only slightly larger at 132 x 40. We’d love to see a 134 by 41 in the range.

For

The last word in responsiveness and freestyle performance, crisp direct and light underfoot the Acid has it going on.

Against

Larger riders will need to be well powered to get the most out of the board, if you are small though you’ll fall in love.

Overall

A real thing of beauty both on and off the water. If you haven’t ridden one of these boards before then you really should find out what all the fuss is about. One of the thinnest boards on the market the responsiveness has to be experienced to be believed.
