Day three at the Hood Jam 2016 was all about sliders- all riders tallied scores the new, Cabrinha transfer box and the North up-down. On Monday, the ladies will finish their tour through the sliders on the Cheesewedge-to-corrugated-tube before everyone switches into kicker mode to finish the first round. As expected, the field of competitors is loaded, and new faces in the park are putting pressure on the usual favorites. Read the details that follow, provided by the Slider Project.

With a promising forecast for the day, despite scattered clouds rolling through, organizers gave the green light to get the competition underway. Starting things off, men’s heats 1 through 3 took to the park and completed their round one hits on the Cabrinha transfer box, the North up-down and the North cheesewedge-to-corrugated.

Right out of the gate, it was clear that the competition would be tighter than ever, with riders in men’s heat 1 going trick-for-trick, doing their best to increase the level of difficulty with each successive hit. Local Brandon Scheid was a standout from the men’s heat 1, scoring impressive hits on every slider in the park.

Men’s heat 2 saw some of the toughest competition of the day and was stacked with four-time Triple-S champion Sam Light, young ripper Noe Font, kiteboarding legend Jesse Richman as well as park aficionado Craig Cunningham, who all put forth solid performances across the board.

With the start of men’s heat 3, the front that had been looming on the horizon began to make its way closer to the park, causing variable winds. Although riders had to come in and change kites, the wind held enough to get a solid result for all three sliders. In the end, it was previous freestyle world champion, Christophe Tack, who laid down the highest scoring hits in his heat.

For the women’s division, all eight ladies rode in one heat. They started with the Cabrinha transfer box, but only completed their hits up to the North up-down due to the approaching front and unsettled winds. With solid performances from all the women today, we expect to see nothing less when they resume their heat first thing Monday. They will start on the North cheesewedge-to-corrugated, then head straight to the kickers.
