The Duotone Whip SLS is a strong, lightweight surfboard designed to bridge small-to-medium-wave riding and strapless freestyle. It shares the compact, performance-oriented Whip shape, using a hip-squash tail and increased rocker to produce quick top turns and an agile response. A fast rocker line works with the channel bottom to create speed efficiently, helping riders link softer wave sections, drive through turns and build momentum for tricks. The combination is aimed at riders who value a lively all-round wave board rather than a shape dedicated exclusively to either surfing or freestyle.
Shape and Riding Character
The hip-squash tail promotes fast redirection from the back foot and supports a snappy release at the top of the wave. Increased rocker makes the board comfortable through tighter transitions, while the channel bottom adds purposeful water flow and supports acceleration. Duotone rates the Whip highly for freestyle pop and spinning as well as creating speed and executing snappy turns in medium waves. It also provides useful freeride stability and early planing. Its design focus remains small and medium surf, where a rider can exploit its speed and manoeuvrability rather than relying on the drive and composure of a dedicated big-wave outline.
SLS Materials and Comfort
SLS denotes Duotone's Strong Light Superior construction. In this board, Innegra fibres replace conventional fibreglass in key parts of the layup to reduce weight while improving liveliness, dent resistance and predictable response. The Innegra Shield also dampens vibration and improves crack resistance, helping the board retain a composed feel during aggressive riding. A carbon stringer runs through the structure to sharpen feedback and translate rider input into a more immediate response.
The Cork Shock Absorber 2.0 is placed in high-pressure areas. Cork absorbs impacts and can reform after compression, reducing visible dents while preserving the board's ride feel. Responsive flex comes from optimised bamboo layers combined with composite materials, balancing longitudinal flex and torsional response for an agile but controlled platform. Grab rails improve handling during freestyle tricks, provide a comfortable grip and reinforce an area regularly subjected to impacts and repeated handling.
The Multibox system accepts Futures-compatible fins and secures them with side set screws, without a rear tab. Its tolerances are designed for both the supplied composite fins and compatible aftermarket options. The arrangement also aims to keep installation and removal straightforward after normal exposure to sand and salt.
Sizes and Specifications
The Whip SLS is offered in 4’11”, 5’1” and 5’3”. The 4’11” has dimensions of 17 3/4 inches by 2 inches, a volume of 19.92 litres, a recommended rider range of 45 to 65 kg and a stated board weight of 2.80 kg. The 5’1” measures 18 1/4 inches by 2 1/8 inches, carries 22.35 litres, suits 65 to 85 kg and weighs 2.96 kg. The 5’3” measures 18 3/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches, carries 24.98 litres, targets riders above 85 kg and weighs 3.00 kg. Each size uses the TS-M fin set, with a stated weight tolerance of plus or minus six percent.
