The Legacy Helmet follows in the footsteps of the much-loved Impact Cap in the Mystic range, and builds on that foundation with one key upgrade, a hard shell exterior.
Where the Impact Cap focused on low-profile, soft-shell impact protection, the Legacy adds increased resistance to sharper objects such as fins and foils. In a world of big air and high-speed crashes, that extra layer of protection makes a lot of sense.
It remains sleek, minimal and stylish, with a shape designed to suit a wide range of head sizes. On first impression, it feels snug, secure and confidence-inspiring.
On The Water
I was a big fan of the Impact Cap, so this had a lot to live up to. Thankfully, it delivers.
The low-profile design is what really sets it apart. When you are riding, you barely notice you have it on. During wipeouts, there is no heavy, top-loaded sensation and no neck strain. It genuinely feels closer to wearing a neoprene hood than a traditional helmet, which is exactly what you want when things go wrong at speed.
The hard shell adds reassurance without adding bulk. You feel properly protected, especially in situations where contact with a fin or your board is a possibility. It adds an extra layer of security over the Impact Cap without compromising on comfort.
The ear panels are particularly well designed. They allow sound to pass through clearly, so you can still hear what is going on around you, but without that annoying whistling effect that some helmets suffer from. Once you are out riding, the helmet simply fades into the background, and it is easy to forget you are wearing it.
Fit-wise, it does come up slightly smaller than the Impact Cap. I wore a M/L in the previous version, and it was spot on. In the Legacy, the M/L feels a touch tighter. It is not uncomfortable, but it is definitely worth trying one on before buying to make sure you get the right size.
Overall
The Mystic Legacy Helmet is a smart evolution of an already excellent design.
It keeps the low-profile, comfortable feel that made the Impact Cap so popular, while adding the hard-shell protection that modern riding arguably demands. It is sleek, well-designed and genuinely comfortable enough to forget you are wearing it.
