After several years away, I finally returned to this very special Caribbean island to visit my longtime friend Jeremie. Union Island was devastated by a hurricane two years ago, leaving much of the island destroyed. Jeremie had been working incredibly hard to rebuild, welcome guests back and help bring the island to life again. With so much responsibility on his shoulders, he had lost some of his motivation to go kite and spend time in the ocean.
We arrived without knowing how deeply everything had affected him—but during our time together, we managed to bring back that spark and get him on the water again, enjoying what he loves most.
Jeremie and I have known each other for many years, and kiteboarding with him is always so much fun! He is like a kid on the water, constantly searching for new ways to have fun, whatever sport he is doing.
Union Island is also incredibly special to me because this is where I learned to wingfoil—and Jeremie was my very first wingfoil teacher. It is a place I will never forget and will always want to return to.
Today, Jeremie and the JT Pro Center team are once again welcoming kiteboarders from around the world. They offer kiteboarding lessons, personalized experiences and beautiful luxury accommodation for anyone wanting to discover this remote Caribbean paradise.
The best kiteboarding season in Union Island is usually from December until June/July, although you can also get lucky with the wind during other months of the year. Expect crystal-clear Caribbean water, warm sunshine, consistent trade winds, peaceful beaches and almost no crowds. Union Island is a place to disconnect from the rush, reconnect with yourself and enjoy the freedom of being on the water.
