‘Mike the Kite’ takes us on a POV looping session at his local spot in Margate and later on for a flat water session in Whitstable.
“January is normally known for its strong stormy winds, but this year it was super quiet for the first half of the month. Luckily the wind came back with strong westerlies for the last half of the month. This meant I could make the most of my local spot (Margate) and the flat water spot in Whitstable (The Street)
Recently I’ve been trying short lines (18m) to get a low kite position on kite loops and it has been fun trying something new. I came to realise on my first session on the short lines that I needed a lot more power to get the height I wanted. I’ve been starting most sessions with short lines and coming in to switch bars with 22m lines when I wanted to boost higher. It’s been a great way to switch things up during sessions. The speed and pull of the loop is amazing and I’m already getting addicted to it. Now I need more wind to practice sending the kite lower and getting higher.”
