With the majestic coastlines of Cape Town as our background, we followed Maria Behrens to discover what drives and inspires her. One can easily see that she is chameleon of sorts – adapting to the wind and waves, allowing her to be always ready for what’s next.
As we spent time with her on our trip in South Africa, her positive energy was infectious and her love for windsurfing was clear. For Maria, windsurfing can be described in one word. “Powerful”.
Maria Behrens is a German windsurfer and wingfoiler competing at the highest international level. Driven by dedication and a strong commitment to her sport, she puts in the hours on and off the water to constantly improve and compete among the best.
Her love for windsurfing started at an early age, inspired by her parents, with wingfoiling joining her journey years later. Open-minded, ambitious and passionate about her sport, Maria embraces the challenges that come with a life in competition.
While the pressure she puts on herself can be demanding at times, she uses it as motivation to keep pushing forward.
Beyond her own performance, Maria wants to inspire more girls to discover windsurfing and show that women can be strong, fearless and passionate athletes in extreme sports. She is determined to represent that mindset both on and off the water. The biggest goal? Becoming World Champion one day.
