The legendary and long awaited kite surf marathon Red Bull Coast 2 Coast is back – two years after giving its spectacular debut. On 19 September Fehmarn will once again become the kite scene’s mecca, as the participants will face the toughest challenge in kite surf history. Two coasts, 40 kilometres and up to 600 starters: At Fehmarnbelt it is all about successfully completing the 40 kilometres between Niobe beach (Germany) and Rødbyhavn (Denmark) and back. A unique challenge, that can only be mastered by those capable of handling the rough wind and sea using it to their advantage and thus finishing the marathon distance in the fastest time. Starting today, every kite surfer, be it seasoned amateur or professional, has the chance to register for the race on redbull.com/coast2coast.

Event participants perform at Red Bull Coast 2 Coast, the worlds longest kite surf race in history with more than 300 participants, at Niobe beach on the island Fehmarn, Germany on September 7 2013.

When the European kite surf scene comes together in Fehmarn on 19 September, the usually serene Niobe beach will again turn into the adrenaline driven epicentre of the kiting world. Red Bull Coast 2 Coast is an event of superlatives: a distance of 40 kilometres and a mass start of up to 600 participants make this kite surf marathon the toughest of its kind. 2013 already saw 350 kite surfers from 13 nations take their talent to the waters of Fehmarn to challenge themselves in the longest kite surf event in the world. Back then kite freestyler Linus Erdmann was one of the starters. Upon his return to the German coast in 2013 he said: “I am super happy. It feels great to have managed to at least make it back. This was a terrific event and lots of fun. I would do it again anytime.”

The race starts on Fehmarn and runs 20 kilometres straight through the Baltic Sea. After completing the turnaround a mere 100 metres from the Danish mainland, the participants will have to finish the same distance once again heading back to Fehmarn, Germany. After all Red Bull Coast 2 Coast is a race without mercy, breaks or compromises.

Racers brave the gusty wind behind a container ship.

Only those who manage to find the right balance between kiting technique, strategy and stamina will have the chance to leave the water victorious. Throughout the 40 kilometre long race the participants are fully exposed to the rough Baltic Sea. A task that will require the kite surfers to give it all they got, not least because the Fehmarnbelt is famous for strong currents and strong swell. Adding to it will be water temperatures of an expected 15 degrees and strong gusts of wind. Accompanying boats will guarantee for maximum security, so both amateurs and professionals will be able to face this unique challenge safely.

Every kiter who feels strong and confident enough to rise to the challenge and be part of this unique event can now register on redbull.com/coast2coast for one of the limited starting places, securing his chance to become the hero of this hard-core kite surf event on 19 September.
