On the 8th to 11th of April 2014 the Varanger Arctic Kite Enduro (VAKE) will take place on the Varanger Peninsula in Finnmark, Norway for the 6th time, the even raises the bar every year. This is the world’s toughest kite competition in one of the world’s greatest areas for snowkiting. Apply on http://www.vake.no before December 1st.
VAKE is about kiting, navigation, endurance and survival. For up to four days , you and your partner kite from Berlevåg to Vardö on the Varanger Peninsula, a kite distance of around 300 kilometers.
You are self-sufficient and you have to manage every weather condition that Mother Nature has to offer. You must pass certain checkpoints along the way, but the route between checkpoints is up to you – and that will determine if you succeed or not.
It is hard, it requires experience, training and planning, but it’s worth it! Previous participants from the Varanger Peninsula have called it “the Hawaii of snowkiting” and many have said that VAKE has given them the kite experience of their lives.
Read more about the competition and apply to participate in VAKE 2014 by 1 December here: http://vake.no/index.php/application
